Diabetes mellitus is regarded as a metabolic affliction which may accompany chronic hyperglycemia and irregularities in carbohydrate, proteins and lipids metabolism. It witenesses abnormal secretion and/or activity of insulin. Type 1 diabetes precipitates due to the destruction of beta-cells in the pancreas which may be the results of autoimmune phenomenon. Some other reasons may include genetic susceptibility, environmental factors, viruses and infections. Type 2 diabetes may involve the combination of genetic factors responding to impaired insulin secretion and resistance. The environmental factors i.e. obesity, overeating, lack of exercise, stress, aging etc. are supposed to be significant contributors to this disease. Chronic state of hyperglycemia is the overall outcome in both types of individuals.
