A historical and scientific perspective that provides a comprehensive and grounded view of one of the most significant discoveries of the contemporary era: uranium. Both for its geopolitical importance and its geological footprint, uranium has shaped the course of history and continues to be the object of global vigilance. With the help of geologist and popularizer Nahúm Méndez, we will explore in these pages the history of this element, from its discovery to its crucial role in the creation of atomic weapons. Through a historical prism, we will explore the initial promises of uranium and its dangers, warned by Albert Einstein himself to President Roosevelt, and the catastrophic consequences of its use in war conflicts or nuclear energy. From a geological perspective, we will discover how this element serves as an essential time marker in the history of our planet, thanks to radiometric dating that allows us to know the antiquity of rocks, minerals and organic remains. An in-depth analysis of the complexities and scientific paradoxes surrounding nuclear energy, as well as a thoughtful reflection on the dilemmas involved in the use of this energy source.
