Antes de convertirse en cronista y narrador trabajó durante diez años en una tienda de discos. Gracias a los libros La marrana negra de la literatura rosa y La Biblia Vaquera (votado como uno de los libros más recomendados de la década 2009-2019 por la revista Nexos) es considerado uno de los mejores cuentistas de su generación. Como cronista ganó el Premio Bellas Artes de Narrativa Colima por El pericaz Sarniento (selfie con cocaína) . Publica la columna Carlos Velázquez. Norestense hasta el tope, nació en Torreón en 1978.
