Luis J. Rodríguez se crio en los barrios de Watts y East L.a. Su libro de mayor venta--sus memorias de cuando fue miembro de una pandilla--Always Running, La Vida Loca: Gang Days in L.A.--ganó el Carl Sandburg Award, y su poemario, The Concrete River, fue otorgado el premio PEN Oakland/Josephine Miles Award for Poetry 1991. Su primer libro de poesía, Poems Across the Pavement (Tía Chucha Press), fue galardonado el SFSU Poetry Center Book Award 1989. El Sr. Rodríguez se ha dedicado bastante al trabajo social entre jóvenes pertenecientes a pandillas, con el fin de encarminarlos hacia horizontes más positivos. Carlos Vazquez nació en México donde estudió fisica y arte, y actualmente enseña en los programmas de instrucción bilingüe para adultos en la ciudad de Nueva York. Tino Villanueva es poeta y pintor, natural de Texas. Escribe en español y en inglés y ha publicado cinco libros de poesía. Su cuarto poemario, Scene from the Movie GIANT, ganó el premio nacional American Book Award 1994, el mismo año que apareció la versión bilingüe de Crónica de mis años peores por la Northwestern University Press.
