This 19th-century French translation of the Middle Dutch poem 'Beatrijs' tells the story of a nun who abandons her convent to live with a knight. Though initially happy, the couple's fortunes change and they are forced to beg for a living. After many years, Beatrijs returns to her convent and is miraculously welcomed back by the Virgin Mary.
