Peter de Vries was a prolific writer of short stories, reviews, poetry, essays, a play, and 23 novels, including The Tunnel of Love, Let Me Count the Ways, and Reuben, Reuben, which have been adapted for film. From 1944 through 1987 he wrote for The New Yorker.
