When The Bright came, when mankind's precious technology changed from servant to master, few were prepared and fewer survived. Cities crumbled, people scattered, the wilds resurged, and nature was once again supreme. Those that survived forged a new world where technology was outlawed and they called it Angland. I live there with my Mama and Papa, or at least I did, until my Papa disappeared one winter night. No farewells, no letters, and no clues. Folks told me to say goodbye because when you disappear in Angland, you don't ever come back. But I had a problem: I knew Papa wasn't dead. He was out there--somewhere--in that place without a place, the Great Beyond. So with my horse Master and Papa's ancient powder gun, I set off into the world to fetch back the man that gave me life. I was utterly ignorant of the dangers that awaited me but when everything else failed; when my horse tired, when my gun would not shoot, and when my own mind seemed against me, I held on to one thought, one feeling: how far would Papa have gone to save me?
