Autorenporträt
Dr. Douglass N. Powell grew up in Central New York State, spending summers and falls with his father, brothers, uncles, and cousins, maintaining and then hunting from a rustic hunting camp on Jay Mountain, outside Lake Placid, New York. He learned the lore of the area listening to tales told by the elder camp members, mastered the arts of storytelling, hunting, woodsmanship, and hiking. While in college, he majored in Biology and Philosophy, becoming interested in Medicine and world philosophies related to healing. He brought this expansive world view to his medical studies and practice. For 35 years, he maintained a practice in Obstetrics and Gynecology, sustaining his interest in teaching after his 8-years stint as assistant professor at the Upstate Medical Center. Founder and director of the Health and Healing Center of Central New York, he treated patients and held seminars dealing with healing and integrative practices. Dr. Powell and his wife traveled to China to study Acupuncture, Peru to study Shamanism, to multiple sites throughout the U.S. to study Hypnosis and other body work techniques. Dr. Powell now blends a practice of Medical Acupuncture, Hypnosis, and Shamanism, and continues to see patients on a limited basis. He is a prior officer and board member of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture. Dr. Powell works with the ACUS Foundation that teaches military physicians to provide Acupuncture to treat pain, addictions, and other conditions without medications, in our active duty military, retirees, and their families. The above experiences and trainings have ideally suited Dr. Powell to write powerfully about the Adirondacks, integrative medical techniques, and healing. He has learned to spin a great tale and incorporates healing modalities as a central theme of his series The Jay Mountain Healing Novels. Each delves with characters learning, healing, and segments of the healing process. His first published novel, On the Other Side of Death Mountain, deals with an escape from international terrorists, love blossoming, healing of a young girl from her chronic pain, and the traditions of the Adirondacks. His second novel, Lake Placid Redemption, deals with Lake Placid recovering from an electromagnetic pulse, finding love, healing of a man victimized by a rogue CIA agent, and the rebuilding of Lake Placid. The series comprises 8 volumes, the remainder to be published in the near future.
