Environmentally sound management of municipal solid waste (MSW) is a key challenge in developing countries. The present study focuses upon the problem of MSW in the densely populated Delhi city. With its escalating population and expanding middle class Delhi generates mountains of wastes. The landfill sites are overflowing to which non-segregation of wastes adds more problems, leading to emission of Greenhouse Gases from these landfill areas. The author has attempted to quantification of heavy metals and GHG emissions, (methane and nitrous oxide) from three landfill areas of Delhi,India.

Dr. Manju Rawat Ranjan has done M.Phil and Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India. She has number of papers published in reputed International Journals.She has been awarded various fellowships and grants for research projects by Indian Government.
