Land, an important natural asset for human being, is considered as an essential ingredient for all human activities and also a fundamental requirement for any form of production and development. Guwahati has experienced rapid growth of population during last three decades due to its locational advantages and expanding urban functions. The unplanned and haphazard growth of the city have spilled beyond the city boundary, which brings many undesirable changes in the landuse pattern within the city as well as in its fringe areas. The present research work as described in the preceding chapter basically demonstrates a detailed geographical treatment of nature and extent of change in landuse in the fringe areas of Guwahati city.
