The purpose of this book is to provide an overview of the gender-related differences between the speech of men and women in a variety of languages spoken all over the world, to discuss gender variation in English and in some varieties of English and to identify gender-related stereotypes in Romanian. The Romanian analysis focuses on adolescents and reveals that there are certain sociocultural norms in their speech behaviour. Costin-Valentin Oancea is a PhD student at the University of Bucharest, Romania. He holds an MA in Applied English Linguistics from the University of Bucharest and a BA in English and Spanish language and literature from Ovidius University of Constanta. His main research interests include: sociolinguistics, language contact, varieties of English.
