The issue of language maintenance in a sociolinguistic context of a socio-politically dominant language is an interesting subject to deal with as far as the descipline of sociolinguistics is concerned.In line with this, the writer of this book is interested to study the status of the language under focus within the context of Amharic, the national official language of Ethiopia, dominance in the city.

Mesfin Wodajo has obtained his B.Ed. in English from Bahir Dar University. He has also an M.A. in Linguistics from Addis Ababa University. Currently, he is working as a lecturer of Linguistics at Bahir Dar University.
