This paper gives an overview of the classical and new tendencies in the interpretation of language play, clarifies the main functions, identifies the techniques of language play and the motives causing it. The paper presents a narrow and broad understanding of the notions of "play" and "language play". Here we also trace the connection between the language game and stylistics. The author considers the language game as a deviation from the norm, in the process of which there is a deliberate violation of the word-formation standard. Individual author's word-formation has always attracted the attention of researchers, as a manifestation of creative attitude to the use of linguistic resources. Occasionalisms are the result of such creative word-formation. Therefore, special attention is paid to revealing the features of an occasional word, the functions of an occasionalism, as well as to the study of ways, on which language play is based This article presents a semantic and stylisticanalysis of word-formation game in journalistic media in German and Russian. The monograph is intended for specialists, interested in the problems of stylistics, lexicology, word-formation, teachers, post-graduates and students.

Olga Petrovna Simutova, Candidata a Ciencias Filológicas, OSU.
