Vladimir Mironov was born in 1957 in St. Petersburg (formerly Leningrad), Russia and studied biology at Leningrad University where he graduated in zoology. For a number of years he worked in the Plant Protection Institute (Pushkin near St. Petersburg) as assistant and later as scientist. After obtaining his PhD in the Zoological Institute in 1992 he has been employed since 1997 at the Zoological Institute of the Academy Sciences of Russia (St. Petersburg), where he is a scientist in the Lepidoptera department. Vladimir Mironov has published a number of articles on Geometridae, mainly Eupitheciini of the Palaearctic Region and is regarded as a leading authority in this field.
