Known at various times as Citrus City, Fair City, Clean Air Capital, and City of Progress, Largo has grown from its roots as a small farming settlement to become the central crossroads and the third largest city in Florida's most densely populated county.

James Anthony Schnur is a native and lifelong resident of Pinellas County. A life member of the Largo Area Historical Society, Schnur has also served as president of the Pinellas County Historical Society and has taught college courses in Florida and U.S. history since 1996.
