The artist, a painter and leading figure in the Bauhaus, experimented from early 1920s onward in using 'photography without a lens or camera' as an artistic medium.
In a collaborative project, the Musee d'art moderne in Paris and the Museum Folkwang in Essen have purchased a collection of 174 of his photograms, which are presented in this catalogue.
The works are arranged according to their places of origin, illustrating at the same time the different phases of the artist's life.
