Autorenporträt
Eugene is a survivor, raised in the improvised city of Camden New Jersey. He overcame doubt when being discouraged by a counselor from taking college preparation classes in high school. He did not listen and graduated with honors from high school. Eugene became a man in transition in Detroit, moving three times before finding housing for the first year of college. Eugene did not know a soul when he transitioned from Camden to Detroit to begin college in 1972. He earned a B.A. in 1977. The greatest obstacle he has over come thus far is a brain injury. Eugene experienced the rupture of an Arteriole Venous Malformation (AVM) essentially a bleeding on the brain. Eugene experienced partial paralysis, memory loss and motor skills deficits. He was able to regain these skills and overcame the paralysis! Something wonderful came about during his rehabilitative recovery process, the gift of prose developed as words began to flow throw his head. Eugene started writing these ideas and thoughts down on paper and a poet was born. Eugene the Composer can be found with other survivors on a beautiful mural in the City of Philadelphia, on the wall of Hahnemann University Hospital. The mural depicts Eugene doing what he does best, reading his poetry.
