In addition to being an unapologetic optimist, Sheryl Lynne Thomas-Perkins is an award-winning writer, poet, and speaker. She treasures beauty in its various forms and praises God for blessing her beyond measure. She enjoys performance art and loves to dance. She's an art collector who has won awards for imaginative decorations and creates environmentally friendly art using books and magazines. Sheryl Lynne is a lifelong learner who graduated from Los Angeles' Westchester High School, where she was a member of the multi-award-winning A Capella Choir, in which she recorded an astonishing album. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from California State Polytechnic University in Pomona, CA after completing her freshman and sophomore studies as an English major at Tuskegee Institute (now Tuskegee University). She holds a Master of Arts degree in journalism from the University of Southern California, where she served two terms as president of Town & Gown Junior Auxiliary of Los Angeles, as well as on the board of directors for the university's Black Alumni Association [Ebonics Support Group], where she was the newsletter chair and currently serves on the scholarship committee. She is the recipient of the university's prestigious Widney Alumni House Volunteer Award.Following in her father's footsteps, most of her career was as a civil servant for the City of Los Angeles. She retired early from her long-time Los Angeles World Airport position as senior government affairs representative to write. Previously she worked as a news editor, reporter, and public affairs director, with news, poetry, commentaries, and feature articles published in the Los Angeles Times, USA Today, The Los Angeles Watts Times, The Atlanta Tribune, Southern California Christian Voice, The Atlanta Metro, The San Bernardino Sun, The Victorville Daily Press, The Compton Herald American, The Atlanta Daily World (where she was a reporter and typesetter), and other publications. She has served on the boards of directors and as a member of numerous community, municipal, and professional organizations. They include Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.(R) (where she is a charter member of the Alpha Gamma Iota Omega chapter), National Council of Negro Women, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, High Desert California Writers Club, Friends of the Victorville Library, American Association of University Women, and more.Since retiring, Sheryl Lynne has enjoyed working as a freelance writer and publicist and serving her community alongside fellow dedicated community activists to affect a more just society and create and enhance a beloved community.She lives in southern California's High Desert and treasures oneness with her grand, indulgent husband. They share their home with their feisty, smart twelve-year-old Min Pin Waverly. This is her first novel.
