The importance of leadership in all of an organization's processes of change is critical, since it would shape and define the way in which the organization and employees will react and act during these processes. One such process is that of organizational change. The present study reviews the theory on leadership, organizational change and their relation. The main goal of the study is to define and present the necessary leader competencies that will facilitate organizational change. A secondary survey of relevant results regarding the leadership competencies that are required to implement planned organizational changes was designed and conducted. A critical literature review took place where the main conclusion of the conducted survey results was that there can be no separation of the terms leadership and change due to their interdependence. Change requires leaders that are capable of altering their leadership styles in order to accommodate the required competencies and allow forthe seamless implementation of the planned change.
