Commanders and supervisors must be individually responsible for the development of each of their subordinates. Both educational doctrine and mentoring programs encourage supervisors to develop their subordinates, but supervisors are not taught how to perform this vital task, nor are they held accountable for its accomplishment. This paper looks at the current AF trends in leadership development, and offers changes to AF Doctrine and procedures. The author argues that these changes would significantly improve leadership development in the AF.
