He goes further to discuss learner support in distance education by highlighting the rationale and theoretical basis for providing learner support in distance education. Using this theoretical discussion, the author finally discusses how two of the public universities in Ghana, which run both residential and distance programmes, provide support for their distance learners.

Dr Francis Owusu-Mensah holds a PhD in Open and Distance Learning (ODL) from the University of Nottingham, UK. He is an expert in planning,implementing and evaluating ODL systems. He has undertaken a number of consultancy services for organizations like The World Bank, UNESCO, DfID and Ghana Education Service.
