Learning and assessment are relevant and central themes in education, and one of the principal actors in this process are teachers, who through their concepts reveal the acquisition or not of effective learning.The purpose of this study is to know how teachers of general basic education of cycle I conceive the learning of their students and develop the assessment process during classroom practices.In order to carry out this research, we compiled bibliographical background, present in the reference framework, that is related to the evolution of the concept of assessment, assessment in a constructivist view of learning, learning under the view of constructivism, a new assessment approach (authentic assessment), a view from the Ministry of Education, and assessment practices in Chilean schools and assessment pathologies.The findings of this study reveal that teachers have changed the way they see assessment in relation to research in this area, moving more and more toward assessment linked to the teaching-learning process.
