Left is a little bit The Day the Earth Stood Still, a little bit Starman and a whole lot of what is wrong with America. It takes you from the back woods of Mississippi to the blues-filled streets of Memphis to the corridors of power in Washington. What happens when a stranger from a strange land - an interplanetary spy - gets stranded in rural Mississippi, of all places? Why did his friends leave him? Where can he turn? Why was he on Earth to begin with? Left is the story of Anton-7, a visitor from a faraway world who succumbs to empathy and breaks the primary rule of his superiors - avoid interference with humans or other planet dwellers. His assigned mission evolves to one of his choosing, and his new journey brings him friendship, an unexpected romance, and a good bit of out-of-this-world adventure. > In the first book in the Terran Incognita series, first-time novelist Paul McGrath poses an intriguing and important "what if" for America. If a nation's leaders can't solve a very solvable problem, should it be left to an outsider to do so? McGrath explores the possible outcomes and, like Anton, navigates a path between hope and fear, between rationality and ignorance. At times poignant and funny, Left hits you like a cup of Waffle Barn coffee -- an enjoyable wakeup call that lingers in your head long after you've finished it.
