SYNOPSIS It is a bright day on May 12, 2022. Dr Peprah-Gyamfi, who grew up in the humble settings of an impoverished village in Ghana and eventually made it to medical school in Germany, is seated in his garden in Loughborough in England, where he now resides, enjoying the beautiful spring weather. Just then, it occurs to him the day marks a special milestone in his life's journey-namely, the 40th anniversary of his arrival in Europe. As he casts his eyes back to the moment he stepped on the soil of West Berlin on May 12, 1982; he recalls the admiration that filled him at the sight of the beautiful scenery that met his eyes. On either side of the wide dual carriageway he was standing, he found several magnificent buildings towering into the early afternoon skies. The street was unbelievably tidy and well-kept; as far as his eyes could behold, he spotted no litter. As he admired the beautiful scenery confronting his eyes, he asked himself, why? Why? Why? Why the vast difference in Western Europe's development level compared to his native Africa? On May 12, 2022, as he marks the ruby anniversary of his arrival in Europe, the same question creeps into his mind. For though there have, over the period, been some spots of light here and there in Africa, the fundamental difference in the level of development of the two societies remains the same. Did those thoughts and the frustration of Africa's inability to escape the doldrums accompany him in his sleep and lead to the extraordinary dream experience he will share with the reader? In his dream, he sees himself seated in a garden in London. As he is sitting, a youngster who later introduces himself as Kwasi, a native of Ghana, walks by. Eventually, the two engage in a conversation. Noticing that the junior conversation partner appears upset, the senior inquires if everything is okay with him. Kwasi points to his bad experience at school-a group of his mates had taunted him. "Go back to your poor Africa!" they have told him. Just as the elder consoles the teenage schoolboy, a young girl who happens to be Kwasi's classmate approaches the scene. She introduces herself as Bola, a native of Nigeria. The three decide to walk to a nearby fast-food restaurant to order a meal and deliberate on some of the problems facing the African continent. Seated comfortably around a dining table, each enjoying delicious pizza, the senior shares his thoughts on some of Africa's manifold problems. Citing examples of remarkably gifted individuals in Africa, he stresses that Africa has talents. In his view, the major problem standing in the way of Africa's progress is the mindset of the populace. He surmises that wrong attitudes and other shortcomings have led to the current state of affairs. He ends his discourse with a passionate appeal to the youth of Africa today and those yet to be born to work closely together for the continent's benefit. After about two hours of deliberation on the problems of the Sunshine Continent, they bring the meeting to a close. Just as he is bidding his two pals quite loud goodbyes, Rita, his wife, who has been thrown out of sleep by his screams, gives him a violent shake to awaken him. Ouch! It dawns on him he has been dreaming! Nevertheless, he resolves to write his virtual discourse with the two youngsters in a book and share it with the rest of the world.
