Leishmania donovani is the causative agent of visceral leishmaniasis worldwide. Chapter 2 of this book describes the effect of cryptolepine on Leishmania donovani and deals with identification of new drugs and new therapeutic strategies to combat Leishmaniasis. This chapter describes how these unicellular parasites use autophagy as a survival mechanism in response to cellular stress. Autorenporträt
Souvik Sen Gupta, studied Masters in Biotechnology from Calcutta University, India. He did his Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Chemical Biology, Kolkata, India in the field of topoisomerases and cell death of Leishmania. Currently he is employed as a postdoc in the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, University of Aarhus, Denmark.
