It's almost inevitable that a kid will experience loss at some point in their childhood. Talking to kids about loss though, is hard. How do you start the conversation? How do you make sure they comprehend it? How can you make sure you don't say the wrong thing? Too many times, we skip over the topic altogether, leaving our kids confused and conflicted about the loss they just experienced. Our kids deserve more. They need to understand loss and how to navigate the emotions that come with grief and uncertainty. The best way to do this is through story. It's why I wrote Lemurball. After my young nephew lost his favorite uncle and beloved grandfather on the same day, I realized how important it was to help kids develop the tools they need to navigate loss at a young age. This was my goal as I wrote Lemurball alongside my nephew. This fun, lighthearted story about Leo the lemur teaches kids and their families to understand loss and how we can learn and grow from it.
