Origin of cabbage might be in Eastern Europe and distributed throughout the world by travel and trade. In India, it is cultivated on the hills round the year and it is grown as a winter crop in the plains. As a short duration crop, which is nutritionally superior and capable of producing high amount of food per unit area and time, cabbage has a great potential in modern agriculture. It provides much needed dietary fibres, essential minerals and vitamins. In addition to its usual purpose as an edible vegetable, cabbage has been used historically as a medicinal herb for treatment of various ailments including cancer, warts, pneumonia, appendicitis, and ulcers. The systematic works pertaining to seasonal incidence, management as well as other aspects of the pest has not so far been done in North-Eastern region, more particularly in Assam. In the light of importance of such studies, an experiment was carried out; the results obtained and the conclusions derived from that investigation were incorporated in this book.
