Marina Lewycka wurde nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg als Kind ukrainischer Eltern in einem Flüchtlingslager in Kiel geboren und wuchs in England auf. Sie ist verheiratet, hat eine erwachsene Tochter, lebt in Sheffield und unterrichtet an der Sheffield Hallam University.
