This book in its different chapters only tries to focus in details the primitive forms of library catalogues in different ages of ancient and medieval era of human civilization. Whereas the first introductory chapter deals with the basic concepts of a library catalogue with its objectives, functions, different shapes and the art of cataloguing in its various possible ways, the next chapter deals with the concept of catalogue in ancient Vedic and Sumerian civilizations where the Anukramanika and the clay tablets ruled the roost. Chapter three in detailed form describes the Pinakes of Callimachus and chapter four focuses on the library catalogue of the medieval periods.
