Abstract: Purpose: The work surveyed migration and effectiveness of software in selected university and special Libraries in Nigeria. This was based on the experiences of seven automated libraries in which four have changed from one library software to another. The objectives of the study is to ascertain the major consideration in the choice of software by the selected libraries, to examine the problems encountered and reasons for the change of software. Other objectives of the study are to ascertain the effectiveness of these selected software in the libraries. In line with this, the study compares the effectiveness of the use of these software in information management in the selected libraries in Nigeria. Design/ methodology/approach: Questionnaire was used for data collection; a total of (70%) of the questionnaire were used for analysis. Findings: The study revealed that four have changed from one library software to another while three are still in search of library softwareto adopt then. This change was attributed to factors such as lack of systems analysis before embarking on the purchase of the software, lack of maintenance or technical support, limitation of software etc.
