Born in 1950 in the North West of England in the grimy industrial town of Blackburn Lancashire the Author was born into a poor but caring family, my Mother and Father were both illiterate, they and my 5 siblings - 7 of us were crammed into a 2 up 2 down terraced house with no electricity and no hot water, outside toilet . It was not unusual to often be hungry, cold and wet. New clothes were a rare. This book, his Autobiography "Life Does Not come with Instruction" chronicles his interesting and varied 74 year ( ( so far ) life including his early life primary and grammar school days, his time in a workhouse for destitute children his not so enjoyable Grammar schooldays. Joining the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm at the tender age of 15 in 1966. Tales of his 10 year long Navy days that saw him complete many different deployments on aircraft Carriers and Frigates worldwide. His various Navy "Training" courses included - Trained Aircraft Armourer, Navy Diver, Mountain Rescue team, Helicopter Aircrewman, Airborne Missile Aimer, Search and Rescue Diver, and more. On leaving the Royal Navy in 1975 he went on to complete a number commercial Air and Deep diving ( 50+ mtr deep diving ) courses his diving training that led to many exciting and rewarding practical Diving and Consultancy worldwide projects completed which included a number of underwater equipment projects for the UK MOD. Tom has visited over 50 countries worldwide, Flown over and Climbed mountains, Walked ocean floors, Met with Kings and Queens Climbed Kilimanjaro and the Matterhorn, Walked in Deserts, Rain Forests and on Glaciers He is happiest with a rucksack on his back seeing the world. His current project is to build a school in the high Himalayan for disadvantaged children. He works hard trying to make a difference in the world. A humble man just getting on with life because "Life Does Not Come with Instructions".

Born in 1950 in the cotton mill town of Blackburn in Lancashire. Tom comes from caring but poor family who struggled in every way. his early life was punctuated with multiple house moves and a never to be forgotten spell in the local workhouse that took in destitute children. Despite these early struggles and obstacles he won a place at the local Grammar school and in early 1966, he completely change his life and see the world. So at the tender age of 15 he joined the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm. From this decision he went from humble beginnings to receiving awards from the Queen of England. Tom can be described as a Entrepreneur, Inventor, Motivator, Business Leader, Philanthropist, Teacher, Diving and Marine expert, Treasure Hunter, Mountaineer and Humanitarian. After marrying his wife Jane, he decided after 10 years of service in the Navy in 1975 he put down his roots in Cornwall. In 1980 building on his Navy diving expertise he started his own commercial diving companySAR Diving. Undertaking Offshore Oilfield and inshore diving works. He has completed many 100s off offshore and inshore diving and consultancy works Worldwide. In 1990 he established the now globally renowned charity SHELTERBOX that went on to assist an estimated 2 million disaster affected people worldwide in over 130 disasters. As founder and CEO 2000 to 2012 over £50 million was raised. He says his best achievements in life were meeting and marrying his wife Jane and being father to his two sons John and Edwin and his four Grandchildren.
