Life Poetry of Benita Rainer- an Adopted Baby. Benita has written sublime poems of Spirit and Transformation Poems are organised into seven themes : Alienation, Celebration,Humour, Love and Dualism, Nature and Celebration, Social Commentary and History. It is important to understand the innermost affects of adoption on the psyche of the adoptee. These poems will give insight to those searching for the deepest answers about their adoption, their search for the self and adoptive family connections. The poems cover all of the life poetry of Benita Rainer, an adoptee. Writing these poems assisted Benita's struggle, as an adoptee, to find the meaning of her situation, and of life in general for the adopted person. The affects of abandonment and isolation from all blood relatives is directly referred to. Benita was adopted by an older country bank manager and his family; the bank's policy being to move their managers every 2 to 3 years. This in itself contributed to the affects of loneliness, as all roots put down were pulled up again so frequently. When Benita went to Sydney University as a student she did not feel able to connect to the relatives of the adoptive family, as they were not her own, and so she was isolated yet again. Although fortunate enough to have 'a good adoption' Benita wants to convey the fact that most adoptees will experience many of the themes covered in this book, and desires both adoptees, their adoptive families, and the natural families, to understand this.
