Perry Jr. Distinguished Professor of History at Clemson University, University Distinguished Teacher/Scholar Emeritus at the University of Illinois, and author of several books about Civil War-era America, including The Age of Lincoln: A History. Peter Eisenstadt is an affiliate scholar in the Department of History at Clemson University. He is the author or editor of many books, including Against the Hounds of Hell: A Life of Howard Thurman.
