The researcher employed various models like the Politeness Theory, the Markedness Model, the Power and Solidarity Theory, The Accommodation Theory to explain the research problem. Milton Shumba tiene una maestría en Lingüística Aplicada y una licenciatura con honores en Lingüística. Después de su primera graduación, enseñó en las escuelas secundarias de Manhemba y Nyamuzuwe en Mutoko. Actualmente trabaja como profesor del departamento de lingüística en la Universidad de Zimbabwe. Lovemore Mutonga es profesor en el mismo departamento.
