In this work commercial ceramic material aluminum oxide (alumina, Al2O3) was grafted and extended by three different monomers using free radical polymerization. These monomers are acrylic acid, 4-(4'-butoxy- and 4'-octoxybenzylideneamino) phenylmthacrylate to produce three polymers; polymer A, polymer B and polymer C. The last two polymers showed liquid crystalline properties. The ability of these three alumina-grafted polymers was examined for adsorption of phenol and p-chlorophenol under different conditions i.e., initial concentrations, pH and temperatures.
