The memory of Late Professor Tijani el-Miskin is being honoured in this book. It is a contribution by his colleagues and students in the defunct Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, the Departments of Languages and Linguistics, History, English and Literary Studies and indeed the Faculty of Arts of the University of Maiduguri, Nigeria. It is aimed at celebrating him and the remarkable contributions he has given to academic pursuits. The book is entitled: Literature, Muslim Societies and Contemporary Challenges. In it there are two major parts: chapters written through the English as well as the Arabic mediums. It has been further divided into two sections each:Language and Literature and Muslim Societies and Contemporary Challenges. In the first Part there are twenty-five articles discussing various aspects and techniques in languages, ethnicity, poetry, Muslim institutions, Da'awh, the Mosque, political institutions and contribution of 'ulama' in societies. In the second part which is also divided into two sections with forty-six chapters in all, one will find articles on the nature of Arabic in Borno and the roles it plays in our national life.
