Author Percy Keese Fitzhugh, best-known for his scouting books, wrote this children's story in the early days of the 20th century, when more than half of the U.S. population lived in rural areas and close to half the U.S. workforce made their living on farms. Arthur, who lives in a city, is taken by his uncle to visit farms in the mountains, on the coast of Massachusetts, in the south, and out west. Beautiful color illustrations are throughout the book, which was originally published circa 1908 by McLoughlin Brothers of New York.
