For the last few decades, the growth of urban population is extremely high due to high migration rate form rural to urban areas as well as the natural increment. The major cities hold large number of slums and squatter settlements where a lions share of urban population living in the deprivation of basic urban services. They do not get pure drinking water and healthy sanitation facilities. Narrow and open drain with poor water supply and sanitation cause various infectious diseases. Besides these, they are not facilitated with the very basic medical facilities. They have limited access to educational facilities that fails to make them skilled and attentive about their potentialities. But the slum dwellers also have contributions on urban economy as well as in national economy. They have the right to get access to food, cloth, education, medical and housing facilities to ensure better urban living environment for every residents. In this book, an effort is made to present the living condition of a typical slum in terms of economic, social and spatial aspects.

He graduated from Khulna University and worked for masters from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology-BUET. His work experience includes Grameenphone and Ericsson in different roles.
