A study was carried out with specific objectives to explore livelihood capabilities, assess status of livelihood security of small and marginal families, identify livelihood problems and opportunities as perceived by farm families and to develop and test media on identified aspect of livelihood security. Present study is an attempt to understand livelihoods and levels of economic well-being of farm families. This research provides a comprehensive data on the capabilities of rural households in terms of five livelihood assets (physical, financial, human, social and natural capital). Information on the indicators of livelihood outcomes such as food and nutrition security, dietary diversity, health, economic and shelter/water and sanitation security has also been gathered and results regarding overall livelihood security index showed food security was reported to be high while nutrition, economic, education security were found to be of medium level. Study provides useful informationon problems and opportunities perceived by farm households along with the factors that shape asset ownership and livelihood security. A Video Compact Disc (VCD) on water and sanitation was developed.
