Giorgio Vasari wurde am 30. Juli 1511 in Arezzo geboren und starb am 27. Juni 1574 in Florenz. Er war ein italienischer Architekt, Hofmaler der Medici und Biograf florentinischer Künstler. Er gilt durch seine Schriften über das Leben und Werk zeitgenössischer Meister als einer der ersten Kunsthistoriker.
