Highly Commended at the 2019 BMA Medical Book Awards

Living with Bariatric Surgery: Managing Your Mind and Your Weight aims to help those who are considering bariatric surgery develop a psychological understanding of their eating behaviour and the changes needed in order to make surgery successful. It is also a resource for those who have undergone surgery to help them adapt to the physical, psychological and relationship adjustments that occur.

Whilst the benefits of bariatric surgery are significant, the psychological challenges it presents for patients have been overlooked. This book will help patients develop a realistic view of bariatric surgery and the changes required. It incorporates the real-life experiences of people who have had bariatric surgery, showing how they have responded to the psychological and behavioural changes after surgery, and also features helpful psychoeducation, exercises and strategies to facilitate reflection and learning.

Living with Bariatric Surgery will be an essential guide for anyone considering, preparing for or recovering from bariatric surgery, as well as health professionals working with these clients.

Rezensionen
"If you want to understand the potential challenges of bariatric surgery and how best to manage them, this is the book for you. Dr Ratcliffe clearly has a wealth of experience working with people who have had weight loss surgery. In this book you will not only find many interesting facts about surgery but also numerous practical ways to prepare and remain on track for years to come. I will be recommending this to all my patients and students coming to work with me."

Dr Jackie Doyle, Clinical Psychologist, Centre for Weight Management, Metabolic and Endocrine Surgery, University College London Hospitals NHS Trust.

"Denise Ratcliffe has worked in the field of bariatric psychological support for the past 10 years, and her book, Living with Bariatric Surgery, has been made possible by the privilege of having listened to thousands of people recount their stories of life before and after bariatric surgery. These stories echo through the pages of the book, and are interspersed with practical advice, adding richness to the material and making it not only a useful resource, but also, at times, a moving read."
