Kathryn P. Carter (KP), #theliteracywhisperer, is a literacy advocate, educator, author, and speaker. KP holds a BA in Elementary Education from Johnson C. Smith University, Charlotte, NC, and a MEd from Kutztown State University, Kutztown, PA. Throughout her 35-year career in education, KP became a certified Reading Specialist, Supervisor, and School Administrator. Initially, KP served as a per-diem substitute teacher. She went on to become a successful junior high and elementary school teacher, supervisor, and administrator in several New Jersey public school districts including Montclair, Newark, and Orange. Summers were spent as an Adjunct Professor of Reading at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, Lead Teacher for the Title I program in the Montclair Public Schools, and Reading Enrichment Teacher in the Project Oasis Montclair summer basketball program. KP continues to share her knowledge and skills through involvement with civic and religious organizations. After her retirement from the Orange Public Schools as Director of Language Arts and Testing, KP began the second chapter in her life. She writes and publishes children's books, presents engaging author visits, and has developed a research based interactive literacy workshop series - 10 Steps to Reading Success Progressive Parents Promoting Literacy through her business KP Carter Writes LLC. For the first time, she must learn to take care of herself without the supervision of adult family members and manage to deal with a bully in her cabin.
