The disaster could have been avoided. It was 10:22 p.m., the Metro was going in the direction of Tlâahuac when a rumble and a jolt marked the beginning of the tragedy. A section of Line 12 collapsed and the last cars plunged into the void. The 26 people who died, and all those whose lives changed after the accident, never imagined that fatality would come in the middle of such a daily journey. After its opening in 2012, the journalist Icela Lagunas reported in the media about the irregularities in the construction and was one of the first communicators to alert about the possible risks of a fatal accident. In this investigation, the author reveals the problems with which Line 12 was born, the agreements and inefficiency behind its planning, construction and maintenance; at the same time that it exposes the particular interests, the negligence and the political opportunism of those involved around the supposed emblematic work for the Bicentennial of Independence.
