The conservation and restoration of historic built environment has been an important issue for urban planners, sociologists and local governments, as well as the general public. The projects aiming to restore and revitalize historic quarters or buildings in cities face many problems. One of the most important problems is the local social context. For the conservation and revitalization projects to be successful, they need to ensure interaction and cooperation between the stakeholders and the actors. In that manner, this book approaches this issue from a multi-actor perspective and examines the case of conservation and restoration projects in Kastamonu. In that manner, three major groups of stakeholders and the local dynamics in the restoration process are discussed. Also important concepts for the success of such projects, such as cultural heritage and sense of place are included in the analysis. The book is intended to help the urban planners, local governments and non- governmental organizations that are active in the field of conservation of historic build environment to improve their projects with regard to better cooperation and interaction between the actors.
