Tanzania s economy is in rapid transition from a centrally-planned, government-controlled economy to a more deregulated, liberal, private sector-led economy. This book examines the interaction between Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs), entrepreneurship and local economic growth. The chapters were selected based on their depth and relevancy on entrepreneurship and local economic growth. The purpose was to refocus attention to the issues related to SMEs, and other previously ignored roles of small businesses and entrepreneurship, that is, studying and theorising firms beyond job creation and many other perceived firms outputs. The volume is made up of ten chapters, most of which are empirical studies conducted in Tanzania.
