Local inter neurons make up a considerable portion of the brain. But what are they good for? What are their functions and properties? In this dissertation local inter neurons in the primary olfactory center of the honey bee are investigated by means of electro-physiology, morphology and computational analysis. Every single one of these approaches reveals both remarkable diversity of this neuron family, as well as trends to form meaningful groups.
