The need for greater technological investment in the agrarian sector has been one of the most striking and prominent discourses of African leaders. In fact, the Government of Mozambique took concrete steps by creating the Local Investment Fund in order to transform agriculture from subsistence to market. The dissemination of technologies includes the main strategic instruments of the sector but the level of adoption remains low. Analysts agree that the difficulties of access to credit contribute to low investment in agricultural technologies and consequently to low production and widespread poverty. Therefore, the insistence on financing lines has been seen as a salvation. This book seeks to discuss the contribution of the Local Investment Fund in the adoption of agrarian technologies through a case study in Boane. It was found that the fund was crucial in promoting the adoption of new technologies, but it cannot be considered the only way. It is therefore pertinent to 1) improve the extension organisation, 2) ensure the participation of producers in technology transfer programmes and 3) improve management mechanisms and access to credit.
