Although it is well accepted that corticosteroids induce a complete remission in most children with new-onset idiopathic nephrotic syndrome, the optimal duration of initial steroid treatment is still unclear. As NS is a common kidney disease in children, its treatment should be directed to maximum benefit of the patients by reducing the number of relapse and adverse effects of steroid. A randomized controlled trial was conducted in the Pediatric Nephrology unit, Department of Pediatrics, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Dhaka, Bangladesh to compare the efficacy of longer initial course of prednisolone with standard regimen. Patients who responded to initial course of prednisolone, either standard or long regimen were included & followed for one year. The results of the study will help pediatricians & pediatric nephrologists to choose better treatment option.
