This paper presents the feasibility of applying the LoRa® network and its LoRaWAN® protocol as communication vehicles between field sensors used in precision agriculture in Brazil. A general literature review is presented on the evolution of precision agriculture in Brazil, on the use of electronic devices to optimize production on farms, and specifically on the emergence of the LoRa® network and LoRaWAN® protocol in the Internet of Things and its application in wireless sensor networks used to monitor variables that directly or indirectly influence agricultural production. Based on published work, the use of the LoRa® network is proposed as an alternative to avoid the current high energy consumption and low efficiency of the devices currently used for this purpose.
