Alfred John Church était un érudit classique anglais. Church est né à Londres et a fait ses études au King's College de Londres et au Lincoln College d'Oxford. Il a reçu les ordres sacrés et a été assistant-maître à la Merchant Taylors' School de 1857 à 1870.
